In recent years, I’ve installed several sets of SelectWave cordless faux wood blinds to replace worn-out sets of corded blinds in my house. While generally a good product, SelectWave blinds have thin and rather weak vertical strings that join the slats; those are subject to snapping after several years use, and I’ve had to replace a few sets either on warranty or out of warranty.
Looking for sturdier cordless faux wood blinds, I asked a Select Blinds rep about Sleek blinds. He told me Sleek blinds have much stronger strings, and are far more durable than SelectWave blinds. So I ordered two sets of Sleek blinds. The installation was familiar to me, since it’s quite similar to that for SelectWave blinds. However, I was disappointed to find that Sleek blinds use mounting brackets differently shaped from those of SelectWave blinds; this means that, if I want to replace a set of SelectWave blinds with Sleek blinds, I’ll have to remove the brackets and replace them with a new set.
Sleek blinds come with a side wand that enables fine adjustment of the slats’ angle. They also come with a decorative valance that installs fairly easily on top. The mechanical action of these Sleek blinds seems very smooth and positive — and their strings indeed seem thicker and stronger than those of SelectWave blinds. The installation instructions, printed on 11” x 17” sheets of paper, are clunky and awkward to handle.
