We bought these room darkening sheer shades to go in an en-suite master bedroom with north and south facing windows. In previous rooms, we have purchased Hunter Douglas draw cord light filtering sheer shades and luxury level motorized Select Blinds light filtering sheer shades. Comparatively, the material used in these shades are just as nice as the luxury level shades from Select Blinds and the Hunter Douglas shades, but at 1/3 of the cost. The cordless option works well, and would recommend over the motorized options. Our previous sheer shades from Select Blinds are all motorized, and we had three of the six replaced under warranty because the control wands or motors fail. We are now past the five year warranty period on those shades, and two of the six no longer work. Go mechanical if you want them to last for awhile.
The length of the built shade was right at the window sill, so order 1/8” short if you don’t want them to sit right on the sill. Also, the width came in slightly narrower than expected. My windows are 34 1/16” wide, so I ordered 34” width. The final shade was built to 33 3/4”, so there is 5/16” gap to balance between each edge.
Super easy to self install with a drill for a pilot hole and cross point apex bit.
To note, if you want to block all light into the room, these will not work. Light does come in some from the sides, and between the slats. Also, the slat material does droop a little when fully open, obstructing a little bit of the sheer view (but not really a big deal).
Also, when ordering, I recommend calling to speak with a customer rep instead of just ordering on-line. The customer rep was able to answer some of my questions, and found some additional discounts I did not have as an option in the on-line cart. Order fulfillment was also five days earlier than initially estimated!
Overall, great product and value (when on sale), and customer service has always been above average with Select Blinds. Worth the purchase!
